Preparing for your summer moderation

As we get closer to the end of the summer term, it’s important to make sure that everything is prepared in good time for your Arts Award moderation.

  • Name Enrolment: The deadline to enrol names is 3 weeks prior to your booked date. Instructions on how to enrol names can be found in your booking confirmation email and on our website.
  • Assessment: All portfolios must be fully completed and assessed by the booked date. An adviser assessment report form must be completed and signed by the booked date for each of the young people entered for moderation by the adviser indicated at enrolment. Advisers must ensure that each part of the award has been marked and that evidence is clearly signposted on the assessment form for each young person entered for moderation. Download adviser assessment report forms on the Adviser Hub, read the step-by-step guide for completing forms and view examples of completed forms for further support.
  • Sample confirmation: For online and postal moderations, we request a sample of portfolios to be sent for moderation, and not the work of all the young people enrolled. On the booked date (the sample confirmation date), we will confirm via email the names of the young people selected in the sample. All portfolios must be assessed and adviser assessment report forms must be fully completed by the sample confirmation date. For online moderation, all requested work must be sent via online link within 7 days, and for postal moderation all work must be posted within 2 working days of the sample confirmation date.
  • Online moderation: Online work must be fully viewable online without the need to download any files or log in to access (unless you provide log in details). Read our Sharing Online Portfolio Links - Tips and Tricks

Updates to our moderation offer - reminder

In April, we introduced new and simplified moderation options. Centres now have three straightforward moderation options to choose from that are designed to suit all their needs and requirements.

- Standard moderation, our face-to-face moderation option, can now be booked as normal via the centre portal. Centres choose their preferred date with at least 8 weeks’ notice (minimum fee applies).
- Online moderation is consolidated into a single option that is available to all group sizes and any combination of levels. Centres book onto a sample confirmation date and submit their work via online link.
- Postal moderation is also consolidated into a single option and is available to smaller groups that are not able to meet the minimum fee for standard moderation, or moderate online. Centres book onto a sample confirmation date and send their work by post. A small admin fee applies for the safe handling and return of young people’s portfolios/arts logs.

Please note, we are not able to recommence joint moderations. Our new online and postal moderation options offer a flexible and simpler alternative.

Go to Moderation options on our website to find out more about each option and to select the right one for you.
