Hello colleague,

At this time of great uncertainty, we appreciate and value the hard work of advisers who have been continuing to promote and celebrate children and young people’s creative development, despite unprecedented difficulties. We are keen to ensure that Arts Award carries on supporting you through the present challenges.

In this respect, you can read our useful new blog post packed full of remote delivery ideas and resources, and we introduce some of the new support we will be putting in place. And as you would expect, we've provided a round-up of the latest updates around Arts Award and Coronavirus for centres and advisers.

Even in the toughest times, it is important to keep celebrating positive stories - in particular the achievements of young people in sometimes difficult circumstances. And so we are pleased to bring you news of the hardworking and talented young artists who are being celebrated with TrinityTalent, together with Arts Award Voice.

Coronavirus update

Following government advice, we have taken the decision to postpone all Arts Award moderations and adviser training courses until 30 April. Arts Award centres and training attendees affected have been notified, along with organisations with 'in-house' training sessions scheduled between these dates; please check your email for a message from us, or get in touch on moderation.team@trinitycollege.co.uk or training.team@trinitycollege.co.uk. We will soon be in contact about alternative moderation arrangements. Arts Award Discover submissions are unaffected and are running as normal.

Substitute addresses for certificates

If your centre will be closed at the time certificates are expected, please speak to your main Trinity contact, or moderation.team@trinitycollege.co.uk and provide a substitute address (this needs to be before your moderation takes place if it is re-arranged via one of our upcoming alternative methods). For Discover certificates, please provide a substitute delivery address at the point of confirming names. Please note we may not be able to arrange delivery to another address if we are notified any later in the process.

Gold Arts Award UCAS points 2020 deadline

Gold Arts Award carries 16 UCAS points. If you’re supporting young people towards their Gold Arts Award and they wish to use their qualification to support a university application for the upcoming academic year, the current guidance is that the moderation for their portfolio needs to take place by 23 June 2020. We will update centres and advisers of any changes resulting from the current situation. More information on Gold Arts Award and UCAS can be found on our website.

Enrolling young people for moderation

When planning your moderation, please collect full details for the young people you wish to enroll (including full name and date of birth). Young people must be enrolled for moderation no later than 21 days prior to your scheduled moderation date (or sample confirmation date) and ideally once their work has been assessed by the adviser. Find out more. If you are planning on booking a moderation for later in the year, don't forget that bookings need to be made at least 8 weeks in advance. Details in the moderation section of our website.

New Apprenticeship Standard

You may be aware that the apprenticeship framework is changing with new apprenticeships being launched. The current Community Arts Apprenticeship framework for which Silver and Gold Arts Award is an approved Knowledge Certificate, will be closed for new starters from August 2020. Find out more.

Arts Award Best Practice Guide

We are putting the finishing touches to a new Arts Award Best Practice Guidebook. This draws together all the information you need to run your Arts Award centre day to day, including information about the moderation process and key Trinity policies and procedures. Do keep an eye out for our launch email, have a read and let us know what you think.

SUPPORT & RESOURCES

Highlights from the blog

Our newest blog post offers a starting point for supporting young people remotely; almost all aspects of Arts Award can be completed by young people at home. In other posts, we marked International Women’s Day by shining a light on the work of Open Clasp Theatre Company with women in prisons. We also spoke to Sage Gateshead about how Arts Award can be linked to vibrant one-off projects such as Fun Palaces.

Upcoming online support

We are busy thinking about how best to support advisers during this time and have lots of ideas such as blog posts, webinars and new resources. We are also continuing to run remote support sessions. If you are working in a new way or developing new resources, please get in touch so we can share this with the Arts Award community. Find out more.

Online arts and culture with Voice magazine
Have you seen the online resources on Voice mag? They can all be used by young people working on their Arts Award from home. A new area on Voice - which will curate online arts and culture for young people to explore, enjoy and review - is coming soon, and the young contributors are sharing their thoughts about how the arts can help with self-isolation. Find out more.

Alumni benefits

Now is the last chance for your achievers to register and receive our 2020 alumni newsletter to their inbox. Just ask them to visit our Arts Award Alumni page on Voice for full details and then register.

Introducing our Arts Award and history resource

We’ve created a new Arts Award and history resource, to help you embed Arts Award across the curriculum. This free resource is available on our adviser hub and links Arts Award Discover, Explore and Bronze to different outcomes from the history National Curriculum at Key Stages 1, 2 and 3.

Delivering Bronze as an extra-curricular activity

Our new resource is designed to support the delivery of Arts Award as an extra-curricular activity in secondary schools. We know that the arts are increasingly pressured in schools, and hope that this will provide inspiration for how it can work for your students – as well as how Arts Award can link to wider school aims and outcomes, boosting the role of the arts across the school.

Support for Silver

Would you like to get more guidance on your Silver Arts Award delivery? Try our recently recorded Spotlight on Silver webinar you will need to register to access the recording of the webinar for free. You can also read our blog post which looks at how Silver is delivered in different settings.
