Summer moderation reminders

As we get closer to the end of the summer term, it’s important to make sure that everything is prepared in good time for your Arts Award moderation:

  • Name enrolment: The deadline to enrol names is 3 weeks prior to your moderation. Instructions on how to enrol names can be found within your booking confirmation email or on our website. Find out more about meeting minimum fees and moderation costs.
  • Meeting the moderator: At standard and joint moderation, we ask that 25% of the cohort (up to 10 young people) are present to speak to the moderator. More information and how to request special dispensation can be found on our website.
  • Assessment: Remember, moderation is where a moderator, trained by Trinity College London, checks that the adviser’s assessment of a portfolio is in line with the Arts Award assessment criteria.

When assessing work, make sure assessment report forms are correctly filled out, that each part of the award has been marked and that evidence is clearly signposted, so the moderator knows where to look in the portfolio.

Adviser assessment report forms for each level are available to download on the Adviser Hub, where you can also find a step-by-step guide and completed examples of assessment report forms for more support.

Haven’t booked your moderation yet?
We are now taking bookings for August, September and the rest of the calendar year.

If you wish to have a moderation before the end of July it is still possible, depending on your cohort size, to book onto a joint public moderation as a guest centre or an upcoming postal moderation. Please note that these are subject to availability and places are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Certificates are dispatched within 4 weeks from the moderation date, except in the case of Explore postal moderation. For Explore postal moderation, certificates will be dispatched within 6 weeks of your booked sample confirmation date.

Moderation support

If you are preparing for summer moderation, we have lots on offer to support you through the busy time ahead:

If you are planning for the next academic year, you can still access our sessions above, and we recommend checking out our other webinars.  Our upcoming webinar on 2 July is about the arts and wellbeing, a hot topic for many organisations and an area where Arts Award can support you.
